The Greatest Event in the History of Nations?

Referring to the Exodus, Paul Johnson writes:
“For those who heard, and later read about it, the Exodus gradually replaced the Creation itself as the central, determining event in Jewish history. Something happened, at the frontiers of Egypt, that persuaded the eye-witnesses that God had intervened directly and decisively in their fate.” This convinced their generations that this was “ … the most remarkable event in the whole history of nations” – ‘A History of the Jews’ – p26

You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles' wings and brought you to myself. Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine; and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.” – Ex 19:4-6

And yet, we also read in Jeremiah that an even great historical event is going to occur with respect to the Jewish people.

In Jeremiah 16: 14-15 we read:

“Therefore, behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when it shall no longer be said, ‘As the Lord lives who brought up the people of Israel out of the land of Egypt,’ but ‘As the Lord lives who brought up the people of Israel out of the north country and out of all the countries where he had driven them.’ For I will bring them back to their own land that I gave to their fathers."

So the prophet Jeremiah also agreed that the Exodus was considered the great Jewish historical event, but he also shared from God that an even great miracle was going to occur!

I believe we are in the midst of that miracle; the miracle of the formation of the modern State of Israel and the return of the Jewish people to the Land of Israel.

If you are like me a Gentile God-fearer, I ask you what should our response be?

Should we support God’s work and his ‘last days’ plans? If so, how?

First though we need to try to determine if this prophecy from Jeremiah was previously fulfilled and is no longer relevant (for example, in the Babylonian return), or that it is still a future event (which would mean the Jewish people are to be exiled again before it happens).

There is much to consider and I believe that the answers to these questions affect everyone on this planet to some degree.

Some years ago I wrote about the current return of the Jewish people in an article 'Israel: Return in Belief or Unbelief' – see http://www.charismacomputers.com.au/Christian%20site/Israels%20Return%20in%20belief%20or%20unbelief.pdf

There are of course much more comprehensive publications on this issue that argue along similar lines.

Two that I strongly recommend are: 'Should Israel Exist? : A Sovereign Nation Under Attack by the International Community'  by Prof. Michael Curtis – see http://www.amazon.com/Should-Israel-Exist-International-ebook/dp/B0078N6V5A/ref=tmm_kin_title_0?ie=UTF8&qid=1355534815&sr=8-1

Note:
Just one of the amazing miracles and fulfillment of prophecy that you see if you spend some time in Israel is the blossoming of the desert as per Ezekiel 36

Ezek 36:34-35
The desolate land shall be tilled instead of lying desolate in the sight of all who pass by.
So they will say, ‘This land that was desolate has become like the garden of Eden; and the wasted, desolate, and ruined cities are now fortified and inhabited.’
